2012 By-Election
The following information applies to the 2012 by-election as well as the 2010 regular election aside from the legislated dates.  See updates in HCM documents below.

2012 BY-ELECTION
On Friday, December 2, 2011 the Council of the United Townships of Head, Clara & Maria adopted by-law number 2011-29 declaring a seat on Council vacant and authorizing a by-election to be held as soon as possible in the New Year.  Nomination Day will be Friday, December 30 which means that nominations will be accepted from last Friday to and including Friday, December 30, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.

The By-election will occur on Monday, February 13, 2012 - 45 days after Nomination Day as per provincial legislation.  If you are interested in running for a seat on Council in this by-election, please follow the rules as noted on this page.  For additional information and up to date forms, please stop by the Municipal office.
NOTICE: New for 2010 - all voters are required to produce ID in order to receive a ballot, even if they are known to (or even related to) the poll clerk or DRO.

Revisions to Voter’s List

Revisions to the voter’s list may be made by attending at the Clerk’s office in the Municipal Office Building in Stonecliffe any business day from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from December 9, 2011 to and including Monday, February 13, 2012 (up to 8:00 pm on the 13th).

  • The voter's list will not be left on the front counter - the Clerk or designate will look up the information and show only the personal information to the voter.
  • Lists shall not be posted in public places but will be made available with supervised access as described above.
  • Information about a person' spouse, children or neighbours is confidential and will not be divulged;  a person is legally entitled to see only their own personal information.
  • Applications for revisions to the voter's list will only be accepted on fully completed " Applications to Amend Voter's List" Forms available here or at the Clerk's office.
  • Identification required to make any change consists of provincially or federally issued photo ID or 3 pieces of non-photo ID identifying your name, address and signature.

Notice of Nominations

Notice is hereby given to the electors of the municipality of the United Townships of Head, Clara & Maria that nominations for the offices shown below may be made by completing nominations on the prescribed form and filing the same in the office of the Clerk, accompanied by the prescribed filing fee of $100 for all other offices.  The filing fee is payable by cash, certified cheque or money order.

A nomination must be signed by the candidate and filed in person or by an agent during regular business hours between December 2, 2011 and December 29, 2011 and between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2010 (Nomination Day). 

Please ensure that you have completed and submitted to the Clerk (or designate) a Nomination Paper - Form 1 and a Consent to Release Personal Information form.  Also, pick up a candidate's package which includes other pertinent information and forms you will require during your election campaign.

Councillors - One (1) to be elected at large (from anywhere within the municipality)

In the event that there are an insufficient number of certified candidates to fill all positions available, nominations will be reopened for the vacant positions only on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and such additional nominations, if required, may be filed in the office of the Clerk.

Electors are hereby given notice that if a greater number of candidates are certified than are required to fill the said offices, voting places will be opened on Monday, February 13, 2012 between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. for the purpose of voting.  Advance voting may also be held before February 13, 2012 on a date or dates to be announced.

WHO MAY VOTE?

Any person who on voting Day meets the following qualifications is eligible to vote:

  1. Is a Canadian Citizen;
  2. Is at least 18 years old on Voting Day;
  3. Reside in the municipality or is the owner, tenant, or spouse or same sex partner of the owner or tenant of land;
  4. Any person not prohibited, by law, from voting.

THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE ARE NOT ENTITLED
TO VOTE

The Municipal Elections Act, 1996 prohibits the following individuals from voting:

  1. Any person who is not a qualified voter;
  2. A person who is serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution;
  3. A corporation;
  4. A person acting as an executor or trustee;
  5. A person who has been convicted of corrupt practices under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 in the last four years;
  6. Anyone who is prohibited, by law from voting.
